Employment information in France
The job market in France is arguably the most regulated in Europe and one of the most regulated in the world as well. It is heavily supervised by the French government, which partly explains why social rights and benefits associated with getting a job are particularly significant in France. These rights and other benefits are clearly superior to those found in the vast majority of European countries and beyond. In addition, the statutory weekly working hours are among the lowest in the world at 35 hours per week. Finally, wage levels are around the European average, notably featuring a relatively high minimum wage.
On the other hand, access to the French job market is relatively complicated and it is strongly recommended to speak French well. Having a good level of English is also widely appreciated by French employers.
Finding a job in France is therefore not always simple and there are a number of hurdles for foreigners to overcome. However, job opportunities can be interesting as the European Union’s second-largest economy has real expertise in technological sectors as well as more traditional ones. Furthermore, there is a notorious labor shortage in various sectors in France.
